Workshop 'Race (in) translations' January 26th, 2021

On January 26th the research group hosted a digital workshop where research findings around 'Race (in) translations' were presented and discussed.

This was the programme:

  • Introduction - SoSciBio: Same, same, but different: Race, Population, BGA, Ancestry, Migrant background in life sciences in Germany (Tino Plümecke from SoSciBio)
  • Statistical overview of our analysis of 2018-2020 German authored life science papers (Tino Plümecke, Nils Ellebrecht from SoSciBio)
  • The example of Epidemiology: “Migrant background” as translation for race? (Andrea zur Nieden from SoSciBio)
  • Toward A Hermeneutics of Race in Translation (Jenny Reardon)
  • Racialisation of "isolates" in DNA research: the case of Roma (Veronika Lipphardt and Mihai Surdu)
